Proposal and First Shoot

For the project 'SPACE', I intend on photographing a space I want to explore and a place which I have been before. This space is the Skate Park on the water-front of Wellington. I decided I wanted to show the skatepark for the shapes and textures of the space, rather than typically photographing the skaters who use the park.

For my first shoot, I went to the skatepark at a time where there weren't anyone there, allowing me to focus on photographing the space itself. The images from my first shoot were taken at night, so in order to get a good exposure, I used a LOW shutter speed and a HIGH aperture. I spent a great deal of time looking for aspects of the space to photograph and I feel this shoot includes a range of good photos of the Skatepark.

This is my first shoot, taken at night. As you can see in the photos, it has a 'yellowy tinge' to it, so the white balance on my camera must have been off. Overall I am very happy with the range of photos I photographed that night and I feel this concept has a lot of potential.

This is my favorite photo from my first shoot. I like it because it's a great use of line, all the lines are evenly spaced and is aesthetically pleasing. The colors of the graffiti give life to the dark photo giving it a great contrast from the night-sky. Although if I were to edit this photo in photoshop, I would remover the street light on the top left as it ruins the symmetry of the image.
